PRESIDENT/CEO

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles was established in 2001 as the result of a merger of two independent organizations, Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles (founded in 1955) and Big Sisters of Los Angeles (founded in 1979). Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles is a regional affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the largest and most successful national network of mentoring organizations serving children, families, and communities.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President/CEO is responsible for the successful achievement of the organization’s mission through implementation of strategic plan goals and objectives. He or she is also a primary force in the development and articulation of the organization’s long-term vision.  The President/CEO will be a highly-visible spokesperson for the organization, promoting all BBBS mentoring initiatives, and ensuring that the organization is a well-respected, well-resourced force for positive change in Los Angeles communities.

With a total staff of 30, the President/CEO has four direct reports.  The President/CEO must establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including the Board of Directors, Trustees, fundraising volunteers, mentors, mentees, donors, civic leaders, constituents at other Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies and key leaders at the National office of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The primary activities of the President/CEO include senior management oversight; board engagement; leading fund development efforts by identifying and attaining major individual, corporate and foundation donors; donor and volunteer stewardship; and ensuring the organization’s programs align with the BBBS mission and strategic plan. 

Masters Degree from an accredited University preferred plus ten years experience in leadership, management, budget oversight, and fund development success.   Background in the areas of social service or youth advocacy and program management in inner-city culturally diverse environments required.   Track record of exceeding goals.  Proven history of innovation and program development. 

Strong business and Fund Development acumen. Strategic Planning. Program Implementation.  Critical Thinking - Analysis & Decision Making. Planning and Organizing. Creativity. Team Management.  Action Oriented.  Excellent communication, research, presentation and computer literacy skills.  Ability to coordinate a high level of activity.


INDIVIDUAL GIVING MANAGER (TEMPORARY)

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles seeks an experienced nonprofit fundraiser.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles is one of the largest affiliates of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, with over 50 years of experience in matching profoundly disadvantaged children (aged 6 and above) with caring, professionally screened and supported adult mentors.

The Individual Giving Manager reports to the Vice President of Development.

Qualifications: 

  • BA Degree in a related field, Certified Fundraising Executive certification preferred, 5+ years fundraising management experience in non-profit organizations, experience creating and executing a development strategic plan for individual giving growth, proven track record of leveraging donor opportunities, demonstrated track record of meeting and exceeding budgeted goals, a demonstrated history in individual giving and major gift solicitations.
  • Exceptional face-to-face or telephone interpersonal and persuasive skills and experience, excellent communication skills, written and verbal with an aptitude for developing innovative donor communications.
  • Proven success with effective fundraising and marketing strategies, experience working with and training staff and volunteers, working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred, trained in Raising More Money strategies a plus.
  • A comprehensive understanding of budgeting and accounting principles and the ability to successfully work independently and in a team environment a must.
  • Enthusiasm, a positive sense of humor and a can do attitude are absolutely necessary. 
  • A valid California class C driver's license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation is required.

MATCH SUPPORT SPECIALIST (Bilingual – Eng/Spanish)

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles seeks a qualified Match Support Specialist to support the mentors and mentees in the Greater Los Angeles area. This position carries responsibility for providing on-going support to children and volunteers through regularly scheduled contact as outlined by Agency and National standards for the Community-Based Mentoring Programs. This individual is responsible for achievement of service goals, leading, training, and mentor motivation of volunteers; problem-solving; and resource networking;

Bachelors Degree and a minimum of three years professional experience working with inner-city youth and/or case management roles with social services experience required.  Ideal candidates are discerning and driven by results with productive backgrounds in human services, social work with case management oversight or public administration. Must be comfortable making reliable assessments of adults and youth.  Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to extract accurate information from others; have assessment and relationship development experience with children and adults; have high level of organization and the ability to schedule time well; have a professional demeanor. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service and apply sound judgment when dealing with volunteers; interviewing skills; conflict resolution skills; superior organizational skills; strict attention to detail; excellent computer skills and advanced/accurate typing skills; ability to successfully work independently and in a team environment.
